As part of ongoing efforts to strengthen diplomatic relations and expand cooperation between South Africa and Indonesia, H.E. Mpetjane Kgaogelo Lekgoro, Ambassador of the Republic of South Africa to Indonesia, Timor-Leste and ASEAN, held a high-level meeting with H.E. Santo Darmosumarto, Director General for Asia-Pacific and African Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia.

Ambassador Lekgoro was accompanied by Mr. Fanie Thwala, First Political Secretary at the South African Embassy in Jakarta.

The engagement underscored the importance both countries attach to maintaining robust political dialogue and enhancing bilateral cooperation across areas of mutual interest. Discussions focused on strengthening diplomatic ties, advancing economic and trade relations, and exploring opportunities for greater collaboration within regional and multilateral frameworks.

South Africa and Indonesia share longstanding and cordial relations rooted in mutual respect, solidarity among developing nations, and a common commitment to promoting peace, sustainable development, and South-South cooperation. Indonesia remains one of South Africa’s key partners in Southeast Asia, while South Africa serves as an important gateway to the African continent.

The meeting also highlighted the significance of engagement between South Africa and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), particularly as Pretoria continues to deepen its partnerships with countries across the Asia-Pacific region.

Such high-level interactions are instrumental in reaffirming the shared commitment of South Africa and Indonesia to fostering stronger diplomatic, economic, and people-to-people relations, contributing to greater cooperation between Africa and Southeast Asia.
