South Africa’s Deputy Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Alvin Botes, hosted Ireland’s Minister of State for International Development and Diaspora, Neale Richmond TD, in a cordial meeting on Friday that underscored the deepening friendship between the two nations.
The encounter, held just days before St Patrick’s Day celebrations, comes as Richmond tours Pretoria, Johannesburg and Cape Town. He is scheduled as guest of honour at major festive events and business engagements across South Africa.
Both sides reaffirmed strong, growing relations, with key 2026 focus areas including renewable energy, technology, education and agriculture. Bilateral trade has already surged 12% to $638 million in 2024. Ireland’s guest status at the 2025 G20 Summit under South Africa’s presidency further cements the partnership.
