The Ghana High Commission in Pretoria hosted a vibrant celebration on March 6, 2026, marking the nation’s 69th Independence Anniversary.
The event, held at the Chancery on Arcadia Street in Hatfield, drew the Ghanaian diaspora, dignitaries, and friends of Ghana under the theme “Building Prosperity, Restoring Hope.” A highlight was the presence of His Majesty Otumfuo Nana Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene and traditional ruler of the Asante Kingdom, who attended as Guest of Honour. His participation added profound cultural significance, honouring Ghana’s heritage alongside its modern achievements since independence in 1957.
High Commissioner Benjamin Quashie warmly welcomed guests and hosted the occasion. Representing the South African government, Minister Stella Tembisa Ndabeni conveyed congratulations and solidarity. Other notable attendees included the Majority Leader of Ghana’s Parliament.
The reception reflected on Ghana’s historic path to freedom, the sacrifices of its founding fathers, and aspirations for unity and progress. South Africa extended heartfelt wishes for Ghana’s continued prosperity, stability, and advancement in the years ahead.
