South Africa is advancing its economic diplomacy agenda as Thandi Moraka undertakes key engagements during South Africa Week in Nigeria. The initiative serves as a strategic platform to deepen bilateral trade, promote investment, and strengthen cooperation between South Africa and Nigeria—two of Africa’s leading economies.
Strategic Engagement with Nigeria’s Energy Sector
On 21 April 2026, Deputy Minister Moraka participated in a high-level stakeholder engagement with WalterSmith PETROMAN Oil Limited in Lagos. The meeting underscored the importance of collaboration in the oil and gas sector, a critical driver of economic growth across the continent.
Discussions focused on expanding opportunities for South African companies within Nigeria’s energy market, while also encouraging joint ventures that can enhance industrial capacity, energy security, and regional value chains. The engagement reflects a shared commitment to leveraging natural resources for inclusive growth and sustainable development.

Media Engagement Highlights Importance of SA Week
As part of her programme, Deputy Minister Moraka also engaged with the media to amplify the objectives of South Africa Week. In an interview with Inam Maso on News Central, she highlighted the significance of strengthening bilateral trade relations between South Africa and Nigeria.
Moraka emphasised that South Africa Week provides a valuable platform to promote exports, facilitate business-to-business connections, and advance intra-African trade under frameworks such as the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). She noted that strengthened cooperation between the two countries will contribute to a more integrated and prosperous African economy.
Through these engagements in Lagos, South Africa continues to position itself as a committed partner in Nigeria’s economic development, while opening new pathways for trade, investment, and collaboration across the continent.
