The Embassy of the Philippines in Pretoria rolled out the red carpet on 27 February 2026 for its new Ambassador-Designate, Her Excellency Myla Grace Ragenia C. Macahilig, who arrived to assume her post.
Representatives of the ASEAN-Pretoria Committee, a group of fellow Southeast Asian missions in Pretoria warmly greeted Ambassador Macahilig. The diplomats extended heartfelt congratulations and pledged their full support during her tenure, fostering an atmosphere of camaraderie and shared purpose.
The event served as a platform for cordial introductions and reinforced the collective commitment of ASEAN embassies to deepen collaborative ties and regional engagement in Africa.
A seasoned career diplomat, Ambassador Macahilig brings extensive experience to her new role. She previously served as the Philippine Ambassador to the Holy See from 2021 until February 2026, where she represented the Philippines in Vatican relations and strengthened bilateral ties with the Catholic Church’s global centre.
Her appointment underscores the Philippines’ ongoing efforts to expand diplomatic outreach in Africa, with the Pretoria embassy holding jurisdiction over several nations in the region.
