Senior officials from Ghana and South Africa held a virtual meeting on 24 February 2026 to assess progress on commitments made during the 2nd Bi-National Commission (BNC) held in Pretoria in March 2024.
The session served as critical preparation for the forthcoming Ministerial Mid-Term Review scheduled to take place in Accra later this year. Discussions focused on evaluating the status of various bilateral agreements, identifying implementation bottlenecks, and reinforcing the need for coordinated action to accelerate delivery.
The Ghanaian delegation was led by Ambassador Kwadwo Peprah Ampratwum, Director for Africa Bilateral Relations, supported by High Commissioner Benjamin Anani Quashie and representatives from multiple ministries and agencies. On the South African side, the talks were headed by Mr Nyameko Goso, Chief Director for West Africa at the Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO), together with Ms Linda Shongwe, High Commissioner-Designate to Ghana, and officials from relevant departments.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to developing comprehensive Plans of Action aimed at fast-tracking the implementation of existing Memoranda of Understanding, thereby deepening cooperation between the two nations across political, economic, trade, defence, and cultural domains.
The meeting underscored the strategic importance of the Ghana-South Africa partnership within the broader African continental agenda.
