The Zambia Rugby Sevens national team has intensified its preparations for the upcoming Africa Cup Sevens tournament through a high-performance training camp in Pretoria, South Africa.
As part of the team’s build-up to the continental competition, the squad on Friday paid a courtesy call on Zambia’s High Commissioner to South Africa, Her Excellency Ms Grace Mutembo, at the Zambian High Commission in Pretoria.
The visit underscored the strong support being extended to the national team as it gears up for one of Africa’s premier rugby sevens competitions, set to take place in Mauritius later this month.
Technical Team Leads Intensive Preparations
Leading the delegation was Team Manager Mr Fine Chikamba, accompanied by Head Coach Musonda Kaminsa, Assistant Coach Mwamba Chishimba, Development Coach Ronald Chipanta, and Team Physio Lewis Kapinga.
The players and technical staff have been conducting intensive training sessions at Harlequins Rugby Club in Pretoria, utilizing the camp to sharpen tactical execution, improve fitness levels, and strengthen team cohesion ahead of the tournament.
The South African camp forms a crucial component of Zambia’s final preparations before the team returns to Lusaka for the last phase of its Africa Cup campaign.
Diplomatic Support for National Team
In a further show of support, Zambia’s Deputy High Commissioner to South Africa, Ms Ruth Dante, separately visited the team’s training base in Pretoria, where she interacted with players and members of the technical bench.
Her visit highlighted the continued encouragement being provided by the Zambian diplomatic mission as the national side prepares to represent the country on the continental stage.
Eyes on Africa Cup Sevens in Mauritius
The Zambia Rugby Sevens squad is scheduled to depart for Mauritius on 18 June, where it will compete in the two-day Africa Cup Sevens tournament against some of the continent’s leading rugby nations.
The competition presents an important opportunity for Zambia to showcase its growing rugby talent and strengthen its standing in African rugby sevens.
With preparations entering their final stages, the team’s technical staff remains focused on ensuring the players are fully equipped to compete at the highest level and deliver a strong performance in Mauritius.
