The handover marks a key milestone in her assumption of duties, following her arrival in Pretoria on 27 February 2026.

Ms Myla Grace Ragenia C. Macahilig is a seasoned career diplomat with extensive experience in the Philippine Foreign Service. Before her appointment to South Africa, she served as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Holy See from 2021 until early 2026. Her prior postings include assignments at the Philippine embassies in New Zealand and the United Kingdom. Confirmed by the Philippine Commission on Appointments in October 2025, Ambassador Macahilig brings a wealth of expertise in multilateral and bilateral relations. Upon arrival, she was warmly welcomed by the ASEAN-Pretoria Committee, reflecting regional support for her tenure.

Diplomatic Relations with South Africa

South Africa and the Philippines maintain longstanding relations, bolstered by the establishment of a structured Bilateral Consultative Forum (BCF) at the Deputy Ministerial level.
