South Africa has welcomed six new Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) volunteers who arrived from Japan on 23 July 2026, marking another milestone in the longstanding partnership between South Africa and Japan. The volunteers will serve in Limpopo and Mpumalanga, contributing their expertise in Science, Mathematics, and Basketball while strengthening cultural and people-to-people ties between the two nations.
Supporting Education and Local Communities
The six volunteers will be deployed to institutions and communities across Limpopo and Mpumalanga, where they will work alongside local educators, learners, and community members.
Their assignments focus on three key areas:
- Science education
- Mathematics education
- Basketball coaching and youth development
