South Africa and Canada have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral trade, investment and cooperation in the mining sector following a high-level meeting between Deputy Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Mr Alvin Botes, and Honourable Maninder Sidhu, Canada’s Minister of International Trade, held on 22 July 2026.
The meeting highlighted the strong and growing economic relationship between the two countries, with discussions focusing on expanding trade opportunities, enhancing investment flows and deepening collaboration in the mining and mineral development sectors.
South Africa Remains a Key Canadian Trade Partner in Africa
South Africa continues to play a strategic role in Canada’s engagement with Africa, serving as Canada’s third-largest trading partner in Sub-Saharan Africa. The country’s well-developed infrastructure, diversified economy and access to regional markets position it as a gateway for Canadian businesses seeking opportunities across the African continent.
Both delegations welcomed the positive trajectory of bilateral trade and reaffirmed their commitment to identifying new avenues for commercial cooperation that would deliver mutual economic benefits.
