The Delegation of Flanders in Southern Africa has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening scientific cooperation with South Africa following a high-level engagement focused on research, innovation, and knowledge exchange.
Flanders Delegation General Representative Thomas Casrel recently held discussions with Eudy Mabuza, Senior Science and Innovation Representative from South Africa’s Department of Science, Technology and Innovation (DSTI), at the Embassy of South Africa in Brussels. The meeting highlighted the growing importance of science diplomacy in advancing bilateral relations and addressing shared global challenges.
The engagement centred on expanding scientific cooperation, fostering research partnerships, and promoting innovation-driven collaboration between Flanders and South Africa. Both sides recognised that stronger cooperation between researchers, universities, research institutions, and policymakers can accelerate scientific discovery while supporting sustainable economic and social development.
