The High Commission of Sri Lanka in Pretoria hosted an interactive engagement with leading South African tour operators on 27 July 2026, reaffirming its commitment to strengthening tourism and investment cooperation between Sri Lanka and South Africa.
The meeting featured Mr. Hanif Yoosuf, Governor of Sri Lanka’s Western Province and the President’s Special Envoy for Foreign Investment, who shared insights into Sri Lanka’s growing tourism sector and the country’s investment potential.
The discussions focused on expanding collaboration between the tourism industries of both countries while exploring practical ways to increase visitor numbers and deepen economic ties through travel and investment.
Participants were introduced to Sri Lanka’s diverse tourism offerings, highlighting the island nation’s unique combination of rich cultural heritage, pristine beaches, breathtaking landscapes, abundant wildlife, wellness tourism, adventure experiences, and internationally renowned hospitality. These attractions continue to position Sri Lanka as one of Asia’s most attractive destinations for international travellers seeking authentic and diverse experiences.
The engagement also provided a platform to explore new investment opportunities that could further strengthen economic cooperation between Sri Lanka and South Africa. Discussions underscored the importance of building stronger partnerships between tourism stakeholders, travel operators, and investors to unlock mutual benefits for both countries.
In addition, participants exchanged ideas on promoting greater two-way tourism by encouraging more South Africans to visit Sri Lanka while also creating opportunities to increase outbound tourism from Sri Lanka to South Africa. Strengthening travel connections and enhancing destination awareness were identified as important steps towards achieving sustained tourism growth.
The High Commission reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with tourism authorities, travel operators, investors, and other stakeholders to expand bilateral cooperation and create new opportunities within the tourism and investment sectors.
