Bridging Cultures: France Highlights Galleries Ahead of Art Fair
In a prelude to the bustling Investec Cape Town Art Fair, the French Embassy in South Africa organised a networking reception at the elegant Roche Bobois showroom, spotlighting five French galleries and promoting cross-cultural dialogue in the contemporary art scene.
Attendees mingled amid striking artworks, including pieces by acclaimed artists Jules Be Kuti, Morné Visagie, Taysir Batniji, Roméo Mivekannin, and Noah Beyene. One standout display featured a framed print of two silhouetted figures in yellow tops and black skirts, poised against a vivid green backdrop, one grasping a blue rope in a gesture of salute or anticipation – a powerful evocation of identity and resilience.
French Ambassador David Martinon addressed the gathering, emphasising the event’s role in strengthening bilateral relations through creativity. With the fair now underway at the Cape Town International Convention Centre, hosting 126 exhibitors and over 490 artists from 34 cities, this reception underscores France’s commitment to Africa’s thriving art market.
