Apostolic Nuncio Celebrates Mass for Dominican Patroness

The Embassy of the Dominican Republic hosted a special Holy Mass on 25 January at Nazareth House to honour the Feast of Our Lady of Altagracia, the beloved Patroness of the Dominican people. Ambassador Erika Alvarez Rodriguez extended warm invitations to guests for the celebration.
The Eucharist was presided over by The Most Reverend Monsignor Henryk Mieczysław Jagodziński, Apostolic Nuncio to South Africa. Diplomats from various nations joined the occasion, reflecting shared faith and cultural ties.
Our Lady of Altagracia, meaning “She of the Highest Grace,” holds profound significance as the spiritual mother and protector of Dominicans. Her devotion dates to the early 16th century, with the iconic image – depicting the Virgin Mary with the infant Jesus – credited for miracles, unity, and victories throughout history. Celebrated nationally on 21 January as a public holiday, the feast underscores her role as a bridge of grace and communion for the Dominican nation and its diaspora.
