The Consulate General of South Africa in São Paulo hosted a high-level meeting on 25 February with Mr Diego Barreto, CEO of iFood, Brazil’s dominant food delivery platform.
iFood commands an impressive 80-83% share of Brazil’s meal delivery market, serving as a comprehensive ecosystem extending beyond restaurants to groceries, pharmacies, fintech services, and pet supplies. The company has evolved into a digital powerhouse, processing millions of orders monthly and driving innovation in convenience for millions of Brazilians.
Fully owned by Prosus – a subsidiary of South African media and tech giant Naspers – since acquiring full control in August 2022, iFood represents a significant South African investment footprint in Latin America’s largest economy.
Discussions focused on mutual opportunities, including the Prosus Talent Exchange Program. This initiative enables South African and international employees from the group to work on projects in Brazil, such as AI governance and privacy, fostering knowledge transfer and cross-border expertise.
The engagement underscores deepening economic links between South Africa and Brazil through shared corporate heritage and collaborative talent development.
