South African Ambassador Nonceba Losi hosted United Nations Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa, Mr Guang Cong, for a courtesy call on 25 February 2026 at the South African Embassy in Addis Ababa.
Ambassador Losi, who serves as South Africa’s Permanent Representative to the African Union, and Mr Cong – appointed by UN Secretary-General António Guterres in July 2025, held constructive discussions on the volatile situation in the Horn of Africa. The talks focused on emerging security challenges, including instability in Sudan, Ethiopia-Eritrea relations, and Somalia, which continue to displace millions and threaten continental stability.
The diplomats exchanged views on South Africa’s active role in promoting regional and continental peace. As a newly elected member of the AU Peace and Security Council (effective April 2026), Pretoria emphasised its commitment to inclusive dialogue, conflict prevention, and multilateral solutions aligned with AU and UN frameworks.
The meeting underscores strengthened coordination between South Africa, the AU, and the UN to support de-escalation and sustainable peace in one of Africa’s most fragile regions.
