South Africa’s Deputy Minister of Communications and Digital Technologies, Mondli Gungubele, signed a declaration of intent on cyber cooperation with Ernst Noorman, the Netherlands’ Cyber Ambassador, in Pretoria this morning on 03 March 2026.
The ceremony, held amid smiles and handshakes, underscores a growing partnership between the two nations to combat cyber threats, share expertise, and enhance resilience in an increasingly interconnected world. “This agreement marks a pivotal moment in our bilateral relations,” Gungubele remarked, emphasising the need for collaborative strategies against evolving digital risks like ransomware and data breaches.
Noorman echoed the sentiment, highlighting the Netherlands’ commitment to supporting Africa’s digital transformation. The pact focuses on joint training, information exchange, and policy alignment, aligning with South Africa’s National Cybersecurity Policy Framework.
Experts hail the move as timely, given rising global cyber incidents. This development follows recent high-level talks, positioning South Africa as a key player in international cyber diplomacy.
