Cultural Harmony on Display as Consulate General of India Joins Maha Shivratri Festivities

The Consulate General of India in Johannesburg, in partnership with Shiva Shakti Mandir, hosted a vibrant celebration of Maha Shivratri on Sunday, 15 February 2026, drawing devotees from across the city to honour Lord Shiva.
The event, held at the temple in Johannesburg South, featured traditional rituals including special abhishekams, bhajans, night-long prayers, and devotional chanting that resonated with spiritual fervour. Attendees observed fasting and participated in collective worship, emphasizing themes of devotion, inner awakening, and the divine union of Shiva and Shakti.
The collaboration underscored strong cultural ties between India and South Africa, fostering unity among the Hindu community and promoting shared heritage. Consul General representatives joined temple leaders in highlighting how such festivals strengthen bonds of faith and community service amid South Africa’s diverse society.
