Multilateral Cooperation Takes Centre Stage at Swedish Ambassador’s Residence

South Africa and Sweden have reinforced their strong diplomatic ties through high-level consultations on current challenges facing the United Nations (UN), hosted by Anna Karin Eneström at her official residence.

The engagement brought together officials from South Africa’s Department of International Relations and Cooperation and Sweden’s Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Sweden, reflecting a shared commitment to strengthening multilateral cooperation and addressing evolving global issues.

Constructive Dialogue on UN Challenges

The consultations focused on key challenges within the UN system, providing an opportunity for both countries to exchange perspectives on global governance, peace and security, and sustainable development.

South Africa and Sweden continue to play active roles in advancing the principles of multilateralism, with both nations advocating for a more effective and responsive United Nations capable of addressing complex international challenges.

The gathering included representatives from key UN agencies such as UN Women South Africa and International Organization for Migration, highlighting the importance of inclusive partnerships in advancing shared global priorities.

Acknowledgment was given to Zaheer Laher, Chief Director for the United Nations at the Department of International Relations and Cooperation, and his team for their role in facilitating the consultations, as well as to Ami Larsson and Kavita Belani for their contributions to the engagement.
