South Africa’s diplomatic flair lit up the capital as the High Commission took centre stage at Global Affairs Canada’s inaugural Arts and Culture Showcase, hosted by the department’s Young Professionals Network.
Staff in vibrant traditional attire welcomed visitors to a colourful booth draped in the national flag and coat of arms. Handcrafted dolls in beaded Zulu and Xhosa regalia, tribal masks, woven baskets and glossy “South Africa” magazines drew crowds, while a towering banner proclaimed “South Africa awaits… Come Find Your Joy” beside images of leaping leopards and sun-drenched landscapes.
The display blended heritage with tourism promotion, sparking lively conversations on investment and travel. Organised to celebrate creativity and cross-border ties, the event underscored Pretoria’s commitment to soft-power diplomacy, with officials from DIRCO and the High Commission hailing it as a resounding success in strengthening people-to-people links between South Africa and Canada.
