The High Commissioner of India to South Africa, accompanied by Consul General Niteen Subhash Yeola of the Consulate General of India in Durban, held an important engagement with representatives of the Indian diaspora in Gqeberha, Eastern Cape.
The meeting focused on bolstering community initiatives, deepening cultural and social connections between India and the local Indian-origin community, and identifying new opportunities for collaboration.
This outreach underscores India’s ongoing commitment to nurturing ties with its diaspora in South Africa, a nation with deep historical links to India dating back to the arrival of indentured labourers in the 19th century and strengthened by Mahatma Gandhi’s early activism in the region.
Such interactions aim to support diaspora-led projects, promote cultural heritage, and explore economic and social partnerships that benefit both communities.
