Flanders Southern Africa Hosts Cultural Gathering at Iziko Michaelis Collection

The Flemish community in Cape Town recently gathered for a cultural event hosted by Flanders Southern Africa in collaboration with Vlamingen in de Wereld. Attendees enjoyed a guided tour of the Iziko Michaelis Collection, housed in the historic Old Town Hall, which forms part of the Iziko Museums.
The collection showcases remarkable Flemish and Dutch paintings from the 16th and 17th centuries, highlighting the rich artistic heritage of the Low Countries. The event fostered connections among Flemish expatriates and friends while promoting cultural exchange in South Africa.
Organised with support from various partners—including the Department of International Relations and Cooperation, the City of Cape Town, and relevant Flemish and South African cultural departments—the reception underscored ongoing diplomatic and cultural ties between Flanders and South Africa.
