Ambassador Kramer Opens EU One Health Workshop to Boost Food Safety and Sustainability
European Union Ambassador Sandra Kramer officially opened the regional workshop “Better Training for Safer Food” on 2 February, under the EU’s One Health initiative. Held in collaboration with South Africa’s Department of Agriculture and the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment, the event emphasises the vital links between food safety, environmental sustainability, and enhanced market access for African producers.
The workshop, part of the EU’s Better Training for Safer Food (BTSF) programme, aims to build competence, promote transparency, and foster cooperation among participants. Ambassador Kramer highlighted that trust in food systems is built through shared knowledge and joint efforts, enabling safer products and stronger trade ties.
Experts and officials from the region are engaging in discussions and training to align standards, reduce risks, and support sustainable agriculture. This initiative underscores the EU’s commitment to One Health principles, integrating human, animal, and environmental well-being for a resilient future.
