Seven Tanzanian Students Begin Studies in SA with Full Funding
In a significant boost to educational opportunities for Tanzanian youth, the Tanzanian Embassy in South Africa has successfully advocated for scholarships through the Mastercard Foundation. Late last year, the Embassy urged the foundation to extend university education funding to Tanzanian students, resulting in seven young individuals receiving full undergraduate scholarships at the prestigious University of Pretoria (UP).
On January 26, 2026, the scholars arrived at the Embassy premises, ready to commence their academic semester in February. The group was warmly welcomed by Hon. Ambassador James G. Bwana, who congratulated them on their achievement and urged them to uphold strong principles and ethical conduct throughout their studies.
The Embassy remains committed to securing additional scholarship avenues in South Africa for talented youth from the United Republic of Tanzania, furthering bilateral ties in education and youth development.
