Zambia and the Thabo Mbeki Foundation have reaffirmed their shared commitment to preserving Africa’s rich historical legacy following a courtesy meeting between Zambia’s High Commissioner to South Africa, Her Excellency Ms. Grace Mutembo, and former South African President His Excellency Mr. Thabo Mbeki.
The meeting provided an opportunity for the two leaders to reflect on the enduring historical ties between Zambia and South Africa, regional cooperation, and the importance of safeguarding Africa’s collective memory for future generations.
Strengthening Zambia–South Africa Historical Relations

As part of the initiative, President Mbeki revealed that the Foundation has begun sourcing historical material relating to Dr. Kenneth David Kaunda, Zambia’s founding President and one of Africa’s most respected statesmen.
Dr. Kaunda’s leadership extended well beyond Zambia’s borders, with his unwavering support for liberation movements across Southern Africa contributing significantly to the independence and democratic struggles of neighbouring countries, including South Africa.
