Indian Consul General Meets Stellenbosch Executive Mayor to Strengthen Bilateral Cooperation

Stellenbosch, South Africa – Consul General of India in Cape Town, Ms Ruby Jaspreet, met with the Executive Mayor of Stellenbosch Municipality, Mr Jeremy Fasser, during her recent visit to Stellenbosch to discuss opportunities for enhanced cooperation between India and the municipality.

The meeting served as a valuable platform to exchange views on a range of sectors with strong potential for collaboration, including agriculture, agri-technology, tourism, artificial intelligence (AI), and broader economic engagement.

During the discussions, Consul General Ruby Jaspreet highlighted the Consulate’s ongoing efforts to strengthen trade, investment and institutional partnerships between India and the Western Cape. She underscored the importance of fostering connections between businesses, academic institutions, innovators and government stakeholders to unlock new opportunities for mutual growth and development.

The Executive Mayor, Mr Jeremy Fasser, outlined several key infrastructure projects currently being launched in Stellenbosch and expressed interest in closer engagement with India across priority development sectors. He emphasized the municipality’s commitment to attracting investment and promoting partnerships that support economic growth, innovation and sustainable development.

Both sides acknowledged the significant opportunities that exist to deepen cooperation in areas where India’s expertise and Stellenbosch’s strengths can complement one another, particularly in agricultural innovation, technology-driven solutions and tourism development.

Consul General Ruby Jaspreet was accompanied by Consul Mr Bhagwan Sahay Meena and other officials from the Consulate during the engagement.
