The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations Representative’s office in South Africa hosted the Regional Administrative Team for an important working session on 9 March 2026 at its Pretoria premises.
The meeting focused on strengthening administrative coordination and operational support to advance FAO’s core objectives across the region: eliminating hunger, improving food security, and promoting sustainable agricultural development. Participants included senior staff from the FAO Subregional Office for Southern Africa and representatives from the broader FAO Africa network.
Discussions centred on enhancing internal processes, resource planning, and alignment with continental priorities amid ongoing challenges such as climate variability, rising input costs, and the need for resilient farming systems. FAO officials described the engagement as highly constructive, laying groundwork for improved efficiency and closer collaboration on upcoming programmes in soil fertility, water-efficient agriculture, and support for smallholder farmers.
With Africa facing rapid population growth and increasing pressure on natural resources, such regular high-level coordination is considered essential to delivering impactful, country-led solutions. The Pretoria session signals FAO’s continued emphasis on robust regional partnerships as the organisation works toward the 2030 Agenda and the transformation of agrifood systems continent-wide.
