In a gesture of goodwill during the sacred month of Ramadan 1447, the Embassy of the State of Qatar in South Africa has launched the “Iftar Basket for Fasting People” project.

Partnering with the Qatar Fund for Development, the initiative aims to support fasting individuals with essential food supplies, fostering community spirit and humanitarian outreach. The launch event took place at the Midrand Muslim Jamaat, where His Excellency Mubarak Ben Nasser Al Khalifa, Qatar’s Ambassador to South Africa, presided. Ambassador Al Khalifa highlighted Qatar’s commitment to global humanitarian efforts, particularly during Ramadan, briefing local Jamaat members on the project’s goals.

Attendees included community leaders and representatives from broader civil society, with a special nod to South Africa’s Islamic communities. The baskets, filled with staples for breaking the fast, symbolize cross-cultural solidarity between the two nations. The event was met with enthusiasm, underscoring Qatar’s ongoing diplomatic and charitable engagements in Africa. As Ramadan progresses, similar initiatives are expected to expand, promoting unity and compassion in challenging times.
