In a gesture of international solidarity, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSRelief) has launched the Eta’am Basket Project in South Africa, aiming to alleviate food insecurity amid ongoing economic challenges.
The initiative, unveiled at the Royal Embassy of Saudi Arabia in Pretoria on February 25, 2026, will distribute over 10,000 food baskets containing essentials like rice, oil, canned goods, and flour. More than 60,000 individuals across various regions are expected to benefit, targeting vulnerable communities hit hard by inflation and unemployment.
Saudi diplomats, clad in traditional attire, posed alongside South African flags and aid packages during the launch, symbolising strengthened bilateral ties. “This project underscores the Kingdom’s commitment to global humanitarian efforts,” a KSRelief representative stated.
Local officials welcomed the aid, noting its timely arrival as South Africa grapples with post-pandemic recovery. This marks the fifth phase of such initiatives, building on previous collaborations between the two nations.
