New Mandela Museum Strengthens SA-Ethiopia Historical Bonds
South Africa’s Ambassador to Ethiopia, Nonceba Losi, attended the official inauguration of the Nelson Mandela Museum in Addis Ababa, marking a powerful tribute to the intertwined liberation histories of the two nations.
The museum honours the deep ties forged in the fight against colonialism and apartheid. It stands as a lasting symbol of shared sacrifice and Pan-African solidarity.
Ambassador Losi recalled Nelson Mandela’s historic 1962 visit to Ethiopia, where the young freedom fighter received military training that also deepened his conviction: Africa’s liberation could only succeed through unity, not isolation. In her address, Losi declared the museum “will serve future generations as a reminder that solidarity changes the course of history.” She urged it to become “not only a tribute but also a beacon of what African unity can achieve.”
The ceremony, hosted under the auspices of the Ethiopian government, reinforces bilateral relations and the enduring spirit of continental cooperation championed by both countries.
