Johannesburg and TİKA Eye Joint Projects in Landmark Meeting

In a bid to deepen ties between Türkiye and South Africa, the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) held high-level discussions with City of Johannesburg municipal representatives.
TİKA officials from its Pretoria office engaged in “matters of mutual interest” and potential collaborative projects. Key topics included sustainable development, education, and infrastructure – areas where TİKA has a strong track record in the region. TİKA has invested over R100 million in Southern African initiatives since 2018, including digital labs at Wits University and school upgrades in Gauteng.
This encounter signals growing diplomatic momentum amid South Africa’s push for diversified international partnerships. A TİKA spokesperson hailed it as “a step forward in our enduring friendship with South Africa.“
City officials are expected to follow up on proposed ventures that could enhance Johannesburg’s urban resilience.
