Swiss Students Gain Diplomatic Insights at Pretoria Residence
The Swiss Embassy in South Africa recently welcomed a group of Master’s students from the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern Switzerland (FHNW) for a special closing session at the Ambassador’s Residence in Pretoria.
The biannual FHNW study tour to South Africa, running since 2005, immerses students in the Master of Science in Business Information Systems programme in real-world international business and technology. It emphasises model-based solution design, IT-driven value creation, and navigating dynamics in the evolving global economy. The visit, hosted at the tail end of this year’s tour, featured an interactive “nuts and bolts” briefing on embassy operations.
Topics ranged from behind-the-scenes consular services and diplomatic functions to trade promotion, economic cooperation, and science, technology, and innovation (STI) linkages. The long-standing partnership between FHNW and the University of Pretoria, dating back to 2005, enriched the event, with Pretoria colleagues joining to highlight collaborative benefits for students and researchers on both sides.
Participants praised the practical, engaging format, which bridged academia with diplomacy. Embassy officials expressed enthusiasm for future visits, noting the partnership’s evolution from education to meaningful bilateral impact.
