TİKA and Bakgatla Ba Kgafela Explore Skills and Empowerment Projects in North West
The Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) in South Africa hosted a significant meeting yesterday with Mr Sebele Pilane, representing the Bakgatla Ba Kgafela Traditional Council, to explore collaborative initiatives aimed at uplifting communities in the North West province.
The discussions, held at TİKA’s Pretoria office, centred on potential joint projects emphasising skills development and sustainable community empowerment. Participants highlighted opportunities for vocational training, capacity-building programmes, and long-term initiatives that could enhance economic self-reliance and social progress among the Bakgatla Ba Kgafela people, who reside primarily in the Moruleng area near the Pilanesberg National Park.
TİKA, Turkey’s key development cooperation agency active in South Africa since 2017, has a track record of supporting sustainable projects across Africa, including water systems and health infrastructure in the region. This engagement aligns with its focus on fostering partnerships that promote inclusive growth.
Mr Pilane, Manager of the Office of Kgosi at the Traditional Authority, expressed optimism about the prospects for meaningful cooperation that respects local traditions while introducing practical expertise.
