Minister De Lille Leads Charge for Tourism Growth at Jakarta Investment Event
On 5 February 2026, the South African Tourism Growth and Investment Dinner took place in Jakarta as a key highlight of Tourism Minister Patricia de Lille’s official visit to Indonesia. The event aimed to showcase South Africa’s burgeoning tourism sector and attract Indonesian investment in infrastructure, eco-resorts, and related developments.
Hosted amid strengthening bilateral relations, the dinner drew high-level attendance, including Indonesia’s Vice Minister of Tourism, H.E. Ni Luh Enik Ermawati. It coincided with broader engagements, culminating in the signing of a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Minister de Lille and her Indonesian counterpart, Widiyanti Putri Wardhana. The MoU covers seven strategic areas, including sustainable tourism, marketing, human resource development, investment promotion, and enhanced connectivity to boost two-way visitor flows.
With around 30,000 South Africans visiting Indonesia annually compared to just 3,000 Indonesians heading to South Africa, both nations seek to balance and expand tourism exchanges through joint promotion and eased travel barriers. The dinner underscored South Africa’s push to position Southeast Asia as a vital growth market for its tourism economy.
