25+ Years of Collaboration Celebrated: Egyptian Envoy Meets Al-Azhar School Principal

Egyptian Ambassador to South Africa Ahmad Sharief welcomed Sheikh Ahmed Yusuf Lokhat, President of the Association of Islamic Schools in South Africa and Principal of the Al-Azhar School in Durban, for a productive meeting focused on deepening educational collaboration.
Discussions centred on strengthening partnerships between Al-Azhar Al-Sharif – Egypt’s premier Islamic institution – and South African Islamic schools. Key areas included ongoing support for Al-Azhar-affiliated institutions, the potential secondment of Al-Azhar educators to elevate teaching quality, and the enrichment of curricula for students.
Ambassador Sharief reiterated Egypt’s firm commitment to the Al-Azhar School in Durban, highlighting its vital role in instilling values of moderation, tolerance, and balanced religious guidance among young South Africans. Sheikh Lokhat expressed enthusiasm for expanding cooperation with Al-Azhar Al-Sharif to further advance the school’s educational mission.
The meeting, which underscored more than 25 years of fruitful partnership, concluded with Sheikh Lokhat presenting Ambassador Sharief with a commemorative gift from the Al-Azhar School in appreciation of the enduring ties.
