Ambassador Gormley Meets BBC Chief Matabane Amid Push for Black Economic Transformation

Irish Ambassador to South Africa Austin Gormley recently welcomed Kganki Matabane, Chief Executive Officer of the Black Business Council (BBC), for a high-level discussion at the Embassy. The BBC serves as a leading umbrella organisation representing black business federations across the country.

Matabane, a seasoned leader with more than 27 years of experience in business and economic advocacy, is a prominent voice on corporate governance and broad-based black economic empowerment (B-BBEE). The meeting centred on the persistent challenges and emerging opportunities in advancing black economic participation in South Africa’s economy.

Ambassador Gormley and Matabane explored ways to foster inclusive growth, strengthen bilateral trade ties between Ireland and South Africa, and support initiatives that promote equitable economic transformation. The engagement underscores Ireland’s commitment to partnering with South African stakeholders on sustainable development and empowerment efforts.
