Duduza Care Centre Receives Lifesaving Ambulance
Japan has strengthened emergency healthcare services in KwaZulu-Natal through a Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) contribution of approximately R442,500 for a new ambulance at the Duduza Care Centre. The donation is set to significantly improve emergency medical response times and patient transport for communities around Wasbank, a largely rural area where access to timely healthcare remains a challenge.
The ambulance will enable the centre to respond more efficiently to medical emergencies, referrals, and routine patient transfers to nearby hospitals. Local health practitioners say the vehicle will ease pressure on overstretched services and help ensure that critically ill patients receive faster, safer care.
Japan’s GGP programme focuses on supporting community-level initiatives that enhance human security, particularly in health, education, and basic services. The project reflects the long-standing cooperation between Japan and South Africa, aimed at improving the quality of life in underserved communities through practical, sustainable support.
