Yitna Getachew Accredited as IOM Chief in South Africa
In a formal diplomatic ceremony at the Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO), Mr. Yitna Getachew, Chief of Mission for the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in South Africa and Sub-Regional Director for Southern Africa, presented copies of his Letter of Credence to Deputy Minister Alvin Botes.
The exchange marked the official accreditation of Mr. Getachew, an experienced IOM expert with over two decades in migrant protection and assistance, previously serving in senior roles at IOM headquarters in Geneva. Deputy Minister Botes welcomed the strengthened partnership, highlighting shared commitments to humane migration governance amid regional challenges. The moment underscored South Africa’s ongoing collaboration with IOM on migration issues.
