The Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Pretoria (KBRI Pretoria) hosted a series of activities on Monday, 17 August 2026, to commemorate the 81st Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia.
The commemorative programme was held at the Indonesian Ambassador’s Residence in Pretoria, beginning at 10:00 SAST, and was attended by members of the Indonesian diplomatic community and Indonesian nationals living in South Africa.
The occasion provided an important opportunity to honour Indonesia’s independence while strengthening national pride, unity and solidarity among the Indonesian community in South Africa.
Flag-Raising Ceremony Led by Chargé d’Affaires
The programme began with a solemn Independence Day Flag-Raising Ceremony, led by Chargé d’Affaires of the Republic of Indonesia in Pretoria, Mr Freddy Martin Panggabean.
The ceremony was attended by members of the Indonesian community and was conducted in a dignified and orderly manner, reflecting the strong sense of national pride associated with Indonesia’s Independence Day.
The flag-raising ceremony served as an opportunity to honour the sacrifices of Indonesia’s national heroes and to reflect on the country’s journey since gaining independence.
