In a meaningful tribute to the enduring legacy of former South African President Nelson Mandela, the Embassy of the Republic of South Africa in Jordan commemorated Nelson Mandela International Day 2026 by launching a new TAG Knowledge Centre at the Mabarrat Um Al Hussein Children’s Home in Amman.
The initiative was led by Her Excellency Ms. Tselane Mokuena, Ambassador of the Republic of South Africa to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, in partnership with H.E. Dr Talal Abu-Ghazaleh, Founder and Chairman of TAG Global. Together, they donated a fully equipped Knowledge Centre featuring laptops pre-loaded with educational content and an interactive smart board to support digital learning and skills development.
The official launch was attended by Her Royal Highness Princess Basma Bint Talal, underscoring the shared commitment between South Africa and Jordan to investing in education, empowering young people and strengthening communities.
Advancing Education and Digital Skills
The newly established Knowledge Centre will serve not only the children residing at the Mabarrat Um Al Hussein Children’s Home but also young people and members of the surrounding Marka community.
By providing access to modern educational technology and quality learning resources, the centre aims to enhance digital literacy, improve educational outcomes and create opportunities for lifelong learning and skills development.
The project reflects a shared vision that education remains one of the most powerful tools for social and economic transformation.

The launch formed part of the Embassy of South Africa’s contribution to Nelson Mandela International Day, observed annually on 18 July to honour the life and legacy of Nelson Mandela by encouraging acts of service that make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.
