Zambia’s Ministry of Tourism has intensified efforts to modernise the country’s tourism sector by participating in a high-level regional Best Practices Workshop on digital transformation held in Upington, South Africa.
The workshop, hosted by South Africa’s Department of Tourism, brought together stakeholders from across Africa and the Caribbean to explore how digital innovation can enhance competitiveness, improve visitor experiences, and drive sustainable sector growth.
Zambian delegates highlighted the importance of leveraging digital tools for data-driven decision-making, strengthening tourism systems, and forging strategic partnerships. The engagement aligns with the African Union’s Agenda 2063, which identifies tourism as a critical engine for economic development and job creation across the continent.
Key lessons drawn from the workshop will inform Zambia’s ongoing initiatives to position the country as a competitive digital tourism destination.
The Zambian delegation included Mr. Vincent Mupwaya, First Secretary for Tourism at the Zambia High Commission in Pretoria, Mr. Brian Mwamba, Regional Tourism Development Coordinator, and Ms. Lukuta Angela Muma, Tourism Development and Research Officer.
