The Embassy of Japan in South Africa, in collaboration with the South African government, hosted the Japan-South Africa Quality Infrastructure Seminar, advancing bilateral ties in critical sectors.
Minister of Electricity and Energy Kgosientsho Ramokgopa and Japanese Ambassador Fumio Shimizu delivered keynote remarks, underscoring the importance of high-standard, sustainable infrastructure for economic growth.
Twelve ministries and companies from both nations presented detailed proposals focused on the power and rail sectors. Japanese participants highlighted investment tools, including yen loans, international finance mechanisms, and trade insurance, alongside concrete business cases aimed at supporting South Africa’s energy transition and rail modernisation.
The event brought together senior officials and industry leaders in a packed auditorium at the Embassy of Japan. Officials from both sides expressed optimism that the seminar will pave the way for new joint projects, skills transfer, and long-term investment that address South Africa’s infrastructure challenges while creating jobs and boosting trade.
The gathering reflects deepening economic relations between the two countries, building on decades of diplomatic partnership.
