Amid Mining Indaba, Valentini Commemorates Foibe Victims in South Africa
Italy’s Deputy Minister of Enterprises and Made in Italy, Valentino Valentini, paused his official mission at the prestigious Mining Indaba conference to visit the Italian Consulate in Cape Town. Accompanied by Ambassador Alberto Vecchi and Consul Giulio Mignacca, Valentini extended warm greetings to the consulate staff on behalf of the headquarters in Rome.
The visit coincided with Italy’s national Day of Remembrance (Giorno del Ricordo), observed annually on February 10 to honour the victims of the Foibe massacres and the Istrian-Dalmatian exodus following World War II. In a solemn moment, the officials commemorated this poignant chapter of Italian history, underscoring the enduring commitment of Italian institutions to preserve and transmit national memory and values abroad, even in distant diplomatic outposts.
