Mining Indaba Sidelines: Lesotho-France Dialogue on Archives, Economy, and Upcoming Summit
His Majesty King Letsie III of Lesotho met French Ambassador to South Africa, Lesotho, and Malawi, David Martinon, on the sidelines of the Investing in African Mining Indaba 2026 at the Cape Town International Convention Centre today.
The discussions focused on protecting Lesotho’s national archives and French assistance to Basotho museums, underscoring bilateral commitment to cultural heritage preservation. The leaders also explored broader economic cooperation, highlighting opportunities for enhanced trade and investment between the two nations. Additionally, they addressed the upcoming “Africa Forward” Summit, co-organised by Kenya and France and scheduled for May 11–12, 2026, in Nairobi. Themed “Africa Forward: Africa-France Partnership for Innovation and Growth,” the landmark event—marking the first time a non-Francophone African country hosts the summit—aims to strengthen partnerships, drive innovation, and boost economic ties across the continent.
The meeting reflects growing Franco-Lesotho collaboration amid Africa’s evolving diplomatic and economic landscape.
