Elected Security Council Members Seek Unity as Geopolitics Test International Law
Danish Ambassador Karin Poulsen hosted the elected members of the UN Security Council (E10) at the Danish Residence in Pretoria for a high-level exchange of views. The gathering brought together non-permanent members, including Denmark itself, to discuss shared positions on pressing global issues.
Supported by South Africa’s Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO), the meeting underscored the importance of multilateral cooperation at a time when geopolitical rivalries increasingly challenge international law and the rules-based order.
The group emphasised the need for elected members to collaborate closely in upholding UN principles amid rising conflicts and shifting power dynamics. Participants explored strategies to advance consensus on peace and security matters, reflecting the E10’s growing role in navigating Council divisions.
The event highlights Denmark’s active engagement as a 2025-2026 Security Council member and South Africa’s commitment to global diplomacy. Such dialogues aim to bolster collective action in defence of international norms.
