Molekane Visits Jožef Štefan Institute to Boost SA-Slovenia Science Ties

South African Ambassador Rapulane Molekane, who is non-resident accredited to Slovenia, undertook a working visit to the country on 19 and 20 January 2026. During the visit, he held discussions with Prof Dr Leon Cizelj, Director of the prestigious Jožef Štefan Institute (JSI) in Ljubljana, Slovenia’s leading scientific research institution specializing in natural sciences, engineering, environmental technologies, and artificial intelligence.
Ambassador Molekane also met with heads of the departments of Environmental Science and Artificial Intelligence. The engagements focused on exploring potential areas of bilateral cooperation in research, innovation, and technology transfer, aligning with growing ties between South Africa and Slovenia in science, sustainable development, and emerging technologies.
The visit underscores efforts to deepen South Africa-Slovenia relations through knowledge exchange and joint projects, building on recent diplomatic initiatives to enhance collaboration in key fields.
