Cape Town Students Celebrate Franco-German Ties Through Sport and Talk

The first edition of Franco-German Friendship Day took place in Cape Town on 22 January 2026, uniting students from the Lycée Français International du Cap and the German International School Cape Town (DSK) in a vibrant celebration of cross-cultural ties.
Hosted by the Consulates General of France and Germany, the event featured a lively soccer match between senior students, a school fair showcasing learner projects and cultural exhibits, and an engaging panel discussion. German Consul General Tanja Werheit and French Vice-Consul Alex Lavaud addressed the young participants, highlighting the importance of youth dialogue, cooperation, and the enduring Franco-German partnership—symbolized annually on the anniversary of the 1963 Élysée Treaty.
The initiative fostered friendship, exchange, and shared values among the next generation, with food trucks and community spirit adding to the festive atmosphere at the DSK venue.
