New Haitian Ambassador Accredited in Pretoria Amid Strengthening Bilateral Relations

On 13 January 2026, Haiti’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to South Africa, H.E. Jean Robert Pillard, presented copies of his letters of credence to Mr Clayson Monyela, Acting Chief of State Protocol and Deputy Director-General for Public Diplomacy at the Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO).
Ambassador Pillard brings extensive diplomatic experience, having previously served as Haiti’s Head of Mission to the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland, where he played a key role in rebuilding bilateral ties after decades of interruption. With over 30 years in international relations, investment facilitation, and cross-continental engagement, he has advocated strongly for Haiti’s deeper integration with Africa, including efforts to secure observer status in the African Union.
South Africa and Haiti established full diplomatic relations in 1997, sharing historical ties rooted in anti-colonial struggles and solidarity. Recent engagements highlight growing potential for cooperation in trade, cultural exchange, and mutual support on global platforms, as both nations seek to strengthen South-South partnerships amid shared aspirations for development and justice.
