Traditional Ceremony Marks Haiti Earthquake Anniversary at Pretoria Embassy

On 12 January 2026, the Embassy of Haiti in Pretoria hosted a poignant Gathering of Remembrance to mark the 16th anniversary of the devastating 2010 earthquake that claimed over 300,000 lives.
The ceremony opened with a solemn invocation of the spirits by traditional South African chiefs, paying tribute to the victims and invoking resilience and healing. Attendees reflected on the catastrophe’s enduring impact on Haiti while highlighting moments of global solidarity.
