Diplomacy SA Signs Condolences Book for Victims of US Attack on Venezuela

Mndeni Mthabela, representing Diplomacy South Africa, visited the Embassy of Venezuela in Pretoria today to sign the Book of Condolences.
The book was opened in solemn tribute to the martyrs—Venezuelan military personnel and civilians—who lost their lives defending their homeland during the United States’ military operation on 3 January 2026.
The US-led strikes, part of Operation Absolute Resolve, targeted sites in Caracas and surrounding areas, resulting in the capture of President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores. Venezuelan authorities report dozens killed, including security forces hailed as national heroes for resisting the incursion.
Mthabela’s signature expresses South Africa’s solidarity with Venezuela amid widespread international condemnation of the action as a violation of sovereignty. The gesture underscores Pretoria’s commitment to multilateralism and respect for territorial integrity, echoing calls from regional allies against unilateral interventions.
This act highlights ongoing diplomatic efforts to support nations facing external aggression.
